Negativity awareness

Negativity Awareness:

By: Diane Lang

To make changes and create the life we want we have to start off with changing our thoughts. Our thoughts become our beliefs which create our lives. So, the first way to make any change is to start with your thoughts. Most people are not truly aware if they have negative thoughts or what those thoughts are. Once we become aware, we can choose more positive thoughts or choose to not accept a thought. We should also realize a thought is just a thought, its up to you what you do with it – do you believe it? stop it? change it?

Here are some tips to being aware of your negativity.

1. Mind-Body connection – this is a two part action. First, pay attention to where you hold stress and negativity on your body. The most common spots are: headaches, neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain (grinding teeth) and stomach. Once your aware where your body is holding all its negativity then you can use it as a warning sign.
When you feel the stress on your body this means “stop” and evaluate what is going on in my life? What is truly bothering me? what am I really feeling? what is triggering it?

2. When negativity strikes and you get angry or upset pay attention to the thoughts you are having. What comes up for you? Some clients express thoughts such as: This always happen to me? why me? what’s wrong with me? nothing goes right for me? etc. These are negative limiting beliefs.
Once you are aware of those negative beliefs you repeat in your head over and over again, ask yourself:
Is this belief serving me in a positive way? why do I have this belief? Is this belief true?
Just by challenging the belief you are causing change to start. Your questioning a belief and stopping it in its tracks.

3. Change the belief – once you realize the belief is a limiting belief and it isn’t serving you in a positive way, its time to change it. Your already half way there by challenging it. Your stopping the cycle. Now change the belief to something that is true.
Example: My limiting belief was: I’m stupid. This belief started back in my early childhood and I held onto it till now and I’m in my 40’s. Once I became aware of this belief, I challenged it and started going through all my accomplishments, skills and experiences to realize this isn’t a real belief. I changed it to I’m smart and motivated. It took me a few months for it to really become a new belief but it all started with awareness of the belief, challenging it then changing it.

Remember your thoughts create your life. If you want to make positive changes, you must start with your thought process first. When you change your thoughts, it changes everything.
