Being a Positive Parent

I recently taught a training on being a positive parent. Parenting classes used to be about changing the child but being a positive parent is about changing yourself . Children learn through observation, imitation and role modeling so when you change, your child will follow suit.

How To Be A Positive Parent:
Parenting is about raising your own awareness, being the best person you could be. So the child can see the best and want to follow suit.
> Don’t set your expectations on your child. Let your child be themselves not what you want them to be. Let your child be their authentic self.
> Don’t push your child into activities, sports, etc to take away your own anxiety or to fit into society. Keeping up the jones just creates more stress for you and your child.
> Even though your child is yours, they’re not really yours, they are still their own person with their own interests, thoughts, strengths, etc.
> We don’t have the power to change or control them, they are their own person.
> Let the child be independent, don’t have a child to feel needed or loved.
> Do you love your child without conditions without wanting anything back? any behavior expectations? etc?
> Children are teachers for us- what can you learn from your kids?
>  I have learned how to give and receive unconditional love.
> Parenting is raising a child who gets to experience a full life
> Teach rejection is part of life but not a personal attack. It doesn’t mean you are not lovable. Part of life is accepting that not everyone will like us and that’s OK.
> Your child doesn’t leave your legacy, you leave your own legacy. Worry about your own legacy not what your child will leave because they have your name or represent who you are.
